In those days everything was black and white
Out for a second dog walk of the day yesterday on a beautiful afternoon that felt like spring, I stumbled on the first Snow Drops of the year. I had the camera set to black and white and it took me back 42 years to 1977. I was part way through my teacher training year (I never got a teaching job – something I have no regrets about).
Back in ’77 I had next to no money and one of the few things I could afford to do was take photographs. Yes – that does sound very odd but let me explain.
Whilst at college you could borrow a 35mm camera (Zenith E) and you had access to as much black and white film, darkroom time, printing paper and chemicals as you wanted. So I was very lucky – it was a totally free introduction to black and white photography.
